Many diy home security systems interface directly with your home computer so the homeowners can manage and monitor the system themselves. To make it easy for homeowners to install their home security system, manufacturers include a CD or DVD to walk you through the steps. These wireless systems that include wireless cameras and other security devices eliminate the need for hard wiring the property which greatly reduces the cost. Never before has it been easier for homeowners to secure their property.

Thanks to today's technology, we have many more options when it comes to home security systems. Many of the large companies offer 24/7 monitoring of your alarm and will immediately contact authorities when a security point has been breeched. New wireless systems can be hooked up to a computer and monitored from there. These are convenient to use when you are away for extended periods of time and just want to check on your property. This allows you to have complete control over the camera and select the room in the house or in the yard to view.

Twenty years ago, if you wanted to add more security devices to your home, you would have to call the security company and schedule another appointment for more wiring that would be needed to connect the new devices. With a wireless system, you would only have to reconfigure the variables for the monitored area. Even if you needed help to get this done, it is far cheaper than having to rely on the security company.

Wireless Home Security Systems are fully wireless and have built-in power supplies; even if the phone, power and Internet connections are down, your Wireless Home Security System will continue to monitor and protect your property. This feature will come in handy if an intruder cuts the power and phone lines, or there is a blackout and burglars are on the prowl.

Unfortunately, too many people feel secure in their home and neighborhood. With the increase in teenage and gang crime, a simple home invasion could be the last thing you think about. Make sure your property and the lives of your family are protected. There's no reason for you to be the next victim when home security systems and devices are now so convenient and affordable.

Halloween is celebrated by millions of American every year. It is the time of the year where businesses stock their shelves with candies, costumes and Halloween decorations. People allow their children to dress up as ghosts, fairies, witches or anything they can possibly think of. It is also this time of the year where common fire incidents occurs because of hidden dangers associated with costumes, treats and decorations used for Halloween. It is important to be equipped with fire prevention methods and firefighting equipment to lessen the risk of fire injuries and deaths. Here are some suggestions you can do to celebrate this fun season without experiencing a fire emergency.

In planning your Halloween costumes and decorations, consider using battery powered lanterns or chemical light sticks instead of candles. Also keep decorative materials such as dried flowers and crepe paper which are combustible materials away from candles.

Costumes should be bright and reflective and makes sure that they are short enough to avoid tripping incidents. It is also best to use materials that will not easily ignite when they come in contact with flame. When shopping for costume accessories and wigs, buy only those that are flame resistant.

Inspect your smoke and fire alarms if it needs new batteries to ensure it is working properly on Halloween.

Eliminate tripping hazards on your walkway for children coming to your house for trick and treating. Put away flower pots, garden hoses and wires that may be present in your front porch to avoid minor accidents to young children rushing to your house.

Let your children bring flashlights and cell phones. Teach your children how to contact your home phone number and the local fire department if they encountered an emergency.

When using lighting or special effects, be very careful in using sockets and electrical plugs. Do not overload electrical sockets and if possible avoid using torch lights which may come in contact with costumes of trick-or-treaters.

For Jack-O-Lanterns, use long fireplace style matches when lighting the candles inside and place it in a location away from doorsteps and anything that can burn.

Clear fire exits from Halloween decorations and props so it is not obstructed or blocked when you need to evacuate in the event of a fire.

Be prepared with fire fighting equipment such as fire blankets and fire extinguishers for possible fire outbreaks.

Instruct your children to stay away from heat sources or flames. Teach them the stop, drop and roll method in case they catch fire with their costumes. It is recommended that children?s costumes are seen in the dark so they will be visible in case of a fire outbreak.

Planning ahead can make your Halloween celebration a fun and memorable one. Remember these simple steps and safety precautions and you are on your way to a fire-free Halloween experience.

Weather Alert Radio

Why Every Home And Business Should Own One
One of the most important factors in survival of a weather related disaster is early awareness of severe weather conditions, their current location, and expected path of travel. Although weather alert radios have been available for quite some time, the technologies and tower locations have been much improved in recent years. Most of population of the United States can receive these transmissions using a weather alert radio.

A weather alert radio is a receiving device that monitors radio transmissions from The National Weather Service. When a weather alert is broadcast for a particular area or region, the weather alert radio will automatically announce the alert so that listeners are aware of and can prepare for the event.

In the event of tornadoes and flash floods, a few minutes of early warning from a weather alert radio can minimize both serious injuries and loss of lives. Even hurricanes that are tracked for days or weeks can contain tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, damaging hail, and rapid flooding.
In fact, most loss of life during hurricanes historically has been from flooding, not the wind event.

Weather alert radios are available in many styles, shapes and sizes to accommodate the different needs associated with severe weather. There are desktop models, hand held models that are built into 2 way radios, and even portable, crank powered models. Most are modestly priced, and anyone should be able to find one that they can afford. Some models will receive additional alerts such as Amber Alerts, chemical spills, emergency action notifications, 911/local system outages and even terrorist attacks. Many newer models have SAME (Specific Area Messaging Encoding) system specifications and can be programmed to announce only in specific areas related to their location.

Every home and business should have a pre-determined plan for natural disasters, and should review and practice their plan often. Employing a weather alert radio is an integral part of the plan that will allow the additional time needed in order to enact the plan for an otherwise unannounced major weather event.

So you think you can move your piano yourself ? Well you should think about it twice, because it's not easy as it sounds. If your piano is an old piece of an instrument, that your grandma bought when Truman was president, well it could well be an option to call your friends, give them a bottle of beer or two, and ask them to carry the poor thing downstairs etc.
But let's face it, not everyone owns a piano like this. You don't need to have a piano worth a hundred thousand dollars to call a specialist, the piano mover. You don't need a Bechstein, a grand Yamaha or a beautiful Steinway. No. A simple upright Yamaha piano is worth a few thousand bucks, and even if they look strong, they are, like most music instruments, very fragile. Humidity, excessive heat, vibrations, and moving without care can cause great damages to your instrument. And it's not only about the tools : you can easily rent a dolly, use blankets to protect your piano, and belts used to carry them. The thing you will not have is something that cannot be rented : the gesture of the pro. I have moved thousands of pianos in thousands of different situations. And I know how to make it arrive to destination, without a problem. Sometimes it's just about putting it on the side, some other times you'd have to make it go through the window with a rapidly built crane, etc. A professional has the special flair. So if you like your piano call a pro. The cost of reparing is much higher than the cost of calling a pro. My advice !

(french version)
Vous pensez pouvoir d?placer votre piano vous-m?me ?

A violent crime occurs every 19 seconds and an assault every 29 seconds. Yet a lot of folks are lulled into sense of complacency after they get their non lethal self defense weapon-their stun gun. On the contrary having a non lethal self defense weapon is only the first step towards defending yourself.

The next step is to get some formal training-your local police department may be able to help. The next safest bet is to go online and check out some resources there.

Mentally rehearse what you will do in case of an emergency-PRACTICE!

Physically rehearse using your stun gun-PRACTICE!

Practice against an imaginary assailant until you are comfortable with your ability to use it quickly and effectively-PRACTICE!

DID SOMEONE SAY PRACTICE?

Remember an assailant may try to get the stun gun away from you. Most have built in disabling features. That is why it is so important to react quickly, reflexively-in an instant to successfully defend yourself. The time you have to recognize an assault and bring the stun gun to action may be less than a second!

When you are on foot, especially in the dark, in an isolated area carry your stun gun in your hand ready for use. It is not a bad idea to have one in your car, your home, place of work, and of course with you to cover any contingency.

A short burst of 500,000 volts will allow you up to 3 minutes or more to escape, subdue the assailant, or get help. That is the amazing 3 minute cure for the common assault.

Women are particularly vulnerable, especially those who work late at night, those in sales positions, real estate agents, and those who live alone. They in particular need non lethal self defense products such as an effective stun gun.

Check with your local police department. Literally thousands of police departments carry and use stun guns. Why wouldn?t you?

During the Trojan War, the Greeks failed to force their way through the mighty gates of Troy; so they built the horse as part of their unorthodox plan. When the horse was brought inside the city, Greek soldiers came out of the horse and opened the city gates, letting in more of their allies in the once "impregnable" city. It would've been different had the Trojans invented security alarms.A silent break-in is one of the worst kinds of burglary you never want to happen to your home. When you're asleep or away at work, your home becomes vulnerable to thieves wanting a piece of your property for their own. The Federal Bureau of Investigation says most of burglary crimes happen in broad daylight - when most houses are totally empty. You have to have some sort of "eyes and ears" to leave behind while you're away.American survivalist Joel Skousen said the best way to be secure is to be a less likely target. In an interview, he said that changing the look of a house to a fortress just increases the likelihood of a break-in. In fact, the fact that Troy boasts its tall walls succeeds in inviting Greek armies to attack it.However, even if you reduce your home's signature on the burglar radar, you're still at risk to crime. In fact, burglars are just as likely to come to an unguarded house as in a guarded one, so either of the two bears a single fruit. To make your home secure, you have to make them think that it's simple - but it's really not.Alarm systems Long Island residents install are small enough to be totally stealthy to the eyes of a careless burglar. Security cameras are disguised as innocent domes shaped like ceiling lights and alarms are small enough to be hidden from view. By the time the burglars realize the error of breaking into your home, you would've called the police. You can lower the chances of being a target, but never let your guard down.In the past, like in the case of Troy, getting big may have been the only way to deter threats. Video Intercoms For Your Home Security

One of the most common mistake committed, is opening the door to a stranger without prior verification. Before answering the door, it is necessary to authenticate the identity of the person at the door. Generally housewives and children have this tendency to open the door to any unknown visitor, especially salesmen. They do not have the slightest idea, that these people might be burglars in the disguise of salesmen. In a way the home owners invite danger for themselves unknowingly. However to avoid such possibilities, you can install video intercom systems to communicate with any person before opening the door. It is an access control system that is increasingly used as a home security measure. Intercoms are one way video components that allows the home owner to view the concerned person at the door before opening it. Many of these intercom systems provide you with the option of speaking to the person at the door. So you can not only view the person but also talk to him via intercom, without having to open the door. This gives you a fair idea whether or not to open the door.

Installing an intercom system is quite easy. All you need to do is install the camera outside your house near the doorbell, and the display unit or rather the monitor anywhere within your house. When someone rings the doorbell, you are required to press the intercom button, the camera will get activated and you will be able to view the person at the door. Intercoms are one of the effective tools of security systems for preventing thefts and intrusions. Even in your absence, these intercom systems can automatically view and record the arrival of any visitor along with date and time. They have integrated memory chips and sensory devices that allow them to perform such activities when you are not at home.

Even if nobody is at the door, still you go ahead and press the intercom button to view the outside of your house for safety reasons. If you feel something suspicious about a particular person outside the vicinity of your house, you can also take pictures through the intercom system by simply pressing the monitor button and holding it for few moments while it takes the photograph of the concerned person.

Intercom systems are highly recommended for people living in apartments, because majority of the intrusions take place in such places, especially when children are alone. Since intercoms are user-friendly devices, hence you can instruct your children to view through the intercom first before opening the door to a stranger. In this way you can not only safeguard your family but also inform police if you feel apprehensive about the person outside your doorstep. Before letting the person in, you can ask irrelevant questions to authenticate his identity. This will give the legal authorities the required amount of time to reach your place to get hold of the culprit. Intercom is yet another device to help you to fight against crime.

Let us summarize the benefits that an intercom system can provide for your home security:
Before answering the door, you can view the person outside through the intercom.

Since intercoms have integrated recording devices, you can view the recording to find who had come to visit your house in your absence.

You can restrict your children from opening the door to the strangers.

Through an intercom system you can take snapshots of the stranger outside your outside if necessary.

Intercoms increase the overall security of your house and your family members in your absence.

Building An Emergency Kit

Posted on November 8, 2019May 27, 2020Categories home improvement   Leave a comment on Building An Emergency Kit

Living in the South means that every year I have to deal with the threat of hurricanes and tornados. Not always am I personally affected by these natural disasters - but it is always a possibility.

Since the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina I have made sure that not only am I prepared for what might happen - but that everyone else is as well. It is important for everyone to be made aware of how to create an emergency and survival kit.

Many people think that if you put together a survival kit you are overreacting and a little nuts. It?s time to stop caring about what people think and do something that will keep you and your family safe. When it comes to being safe you should not think about other people. Instead of wearing the rose colored glasses and hoping that nothing bad will ever happen get real and be prepared.

This doesn?t mean that you should be afraid that there is something bad around every corner. It just means that you understand how fickle the world is and that things can happen spur of the moment. Just think of it like keeping band aids in the house at all times. You don?t keep them there because you are afraid - but just so that you are prepared.

When it comes to survival kits you need to make sure that you have one in every practical place. Not only should you have one in the home - but also inside of your car. I remember that my parents would keep a first aid kit in the car. I thought it was kind of odd - but one night there was an accident and the first aid kit was something that came in handy. The kit you have for your car should contain bandages, gauze, and band aids to name a few.

Your survival and emergency kit at home should have more to it and should be larger so that it can help the whole family. Make sure that you keep this emergency kit in a safe area so that it won?t get destroyed and so that you can grab it easily. The kit should contain water, food, sanitation, first aid, short wave radio, supplies to communicate with others, lighting, and a shelter.

The supplies you purchase need to be able to be stored and to work without any electricity or running water. This means that any communication supplies and radios should use batteries instead of plugs so you will have to stock up on those as well. The food you get should be canned or dry and should have a late expiration date so they don?t spoil fast. Make sure that you store plenty to last the whole family for a few days and anyone else you might take in.

It is more than likely that you will have to live in the shelter for a few days or even a week. Because of this you will need to store thermal blankets that help to retain body heat and keep people warm, emergency sleeping bags, candles, toilet bags, duct tape, waterproof matches, and work gloves.

You can find emergency blankets online or at most outdoor stores. They have many different types and usually they will be able to keep you and your family warm when necessary.
